This morning when I was awakened by the fur gang I looked out the windows and I could see on the corner of the overhang of the garage there was a light dusting of snow. I let the girls outside and watched as they ventured into the yard. They went from one corner of the yard to the other sniffing and looking at the ground, I am sure they were wondering about the trace of white stuff that covered the top of the grass. Soon it was gone, melted into obscurity of the winter cold. As I watched it began to rain and then turned to sleet and then back to rain. The girls wandered about before deciding to come inside where it is warm and dry and their breakfast awaited them.
Hobo gets her food first, then Peaches, then Suzie and last but not least Mama will get hers. As I place her bowl before her she waits and then as always lifts her head to look at me and get my approval before she will eat. A gentle rub on the head and a hug is all she is waiting for, then she takes her head and lowers it to the food bowl and begins to eat. Hobo is always first to finish and goes to check out the others bowls to see if anything is left, first Peaches and then Mama’s bowl. Mama is always slow to finish so Hobo takes her station next to Mama and watches as Mama consumes her food. Hobo is anxious that Mama leaves a little for her and she moves in closer and closer until she is poised with her nose pointed at the food bowl. Finally Mama finishes and gives Hobo the approval she has been waiting for so she moves in to clean the bowl. Suzie always leaves some food for the late afternoon hours so she guards her food against the cleaner lying there with both front paws on either side of her bowl protecting it from the bottomless pit called Hobo until I pick it up and place it out of reach.
It is a good morning to be inside as the temperature is 31* and the light rain falling makes it seem colder. Christmas is just around the corner and with it comes the New Year. I think back of the changes that have come with the passing year and am thankful to have endured the kidney stones and other minor inconveniences that came my way and then I pause and thank God for all He has done for our family. What a wonderful time of year to see and experience the love of God, family and friends. Merry Christmas to all and have a blessed day.
