Thanks...This reminds me that I need to re-fill the kindling box. Small pieces of scrab lumber or pallets works for me.
I like buying a truck load of slab wood off the Amish (the barky outer left-over piece) for my camp fires. Normally a pretty good deal...$20.00, load your own, fills my 8' bed. Love slat wood, it burns quickly, and I find no need for "all nighters" when camping. It normally has just enough "wood" (not all bark) to not immediately burn up, but is thin enough to ensure the fire is tamed at bed time...no all nighters lingering until morning.
Last trip...
GREEN WOOD :M
I smoked a few trying to get that stuff burning. Used all my dry kindling, not to mention a can or two of some flammable substance I found in an autostore bucket I had won (Chinese Auction).
Good thing my Dad and brother both have full time sites. A 3rd of a truck load went to Dad, a 3rd to brother-----then I "stole" some dry stuff from under their tarps. :B
Spent the week chopping the slats into 2" pieces...that was the only way it would stay lit.
