101 SOUTH FROM OLYMPIA TO REDWOODS

We've done it many times, both from Olympia and going the I-5 to Longview then over to Astoria route. I'd do the Longview option myself, but if you've never driven the other it's certainly nicer than the interstate.

I find that the drive itself is very nice, so if you need to move a couple hundred miles a day you can, while still stopping and enjoying the sites and attractions. You can also pretty easily spend days at a time in one spot and find plenty of good activities.

We have two younger kids, so our destinations may not be the same as your ideal, but some of our favorite spots are the Lewis & Clark historic sites around Astoria, the Tillamook Cheese factory, the seal caves, many of the beach state parks and Redwoods National Park in Crescent City. There are also a couple of nice aquariums along the way.

For places to stay, it's really hard to go wrong with an Oregon State Park. They seem to know how to do state parks better than any other state we've visited, and they seem to have them every 75 or 100 miles all along the coast.

Summer trip--June--july

The best if the drive IMHO is I5 south to Longview,WA and cut over to the coast on US30 to Astoria. From there south plan on short moves no more than about 50 miles every couple of days. There is just so much to see and do on the coast. What time of year are you planning to visit?
