We left home on June 4 and returned the last week of August. This was our 3rd trip in 5 years and we will return next year or in 2016. We pulled a 19 foot Scamp 5th wheel with a Toyota Tundra and rarely stayed in commercial campgrounds. We boon docked in Walmarts, Canada Tire and Fred Meyer where available as well as BLM, State, Provincial, National Parks/Forests or just on the side of the road.
Our favorite areas are Kenia/Soldatna, Seward, Valdez and Stewart/Hyder. We did purchase the Tour Saver book and used it for Lu-LU Belle and Stan Stephens Glacier Cruises in Valdez as well as the Hurricane Turn Train in Talkeetna.
A suggestion for those of you who belong to the Family Y or YMCA. They have an "Away Program" which means you can use any facility worldwide. During this trip, we probably visited 20-25 different Ys in the US and Canada. We would workout and shower which meant we did not have to use our very small shower. Another suggestion for showers is to locate city recreation facilities which will allow use for a minimal charge.
When in Canada and Alaska, you need to be prepared for wet weather, but don't let it stop you from seeing and doing all the things that interest you.
Yes, this is a costly trip, but in my opinion, it is money well-spent. The scenery, people and wildlife are fantastic. Hopefully, we will make the trip again!
