I'm sure locals with horse trailers drive 168 all the time. The climb from the Nevada side is minor, with a longer drop to the low valley in California. But the main problem with this road is that is follows a dry wash, and repeatedly crosses the wash - without bridges or culverts. The result is a curvy roller coaster ride - doable but you'll have to watch your speed.
