Some say to stay away from By-Pass, because Commercial Semi Trucks, have to use by-pass, and there will be a fair amount of big trucks (may or may not bother you).
Rush hours: By-Pass is also grid-lock, so it does not save time.
If you are traveling South into ATL via I-85 heading to I-75 south, taking 2- by-pass (285) down to I-675, down to I-75 south, is definitely a better option, many times than straight through down-town.
Sometimes down-town is stopped, due to Baseball games, events at the dome, etc.... Then by-pass is better.
Some think By-pass confuses the trip, then straight through
