I will just repeat what has already been stated about traveling out west. When doing the different grades obey the regulatory signage. My goal going down some of those grades was to never touch the brakes and let my engine/tranny control everything.
We did about 6,000 miles out west in 6 weeks two years ago. We hit Yosemite, Yellowstone, San Fran (The Rock), Tetons, Jackson Hole, and numerous other sights. I wish we would have taken 8 or 9 weeks instead.
We made reservations for about 90% of our stops going out and about 75% of our stops coming back. We only traveled about 300 to 350 miles a day.
It is a great trip and much to see. Be prepared for B20 diesel in California and much higher fuel prices, not to mention they have some pretty had roads.
