95 or 295 Jacksonville?

We're getting ready to head to Daytona Beach Memorial Day weekend for the Country 500 music festival at Dayton International Speedway. We'll be leaving Virginia the Wednesday early afternoon before the holiday.

Being that we have so far to go and so little time to get there (work always getting in the way of a good time) the plan is to get as far as we can Wednesday, Flyin J or similar for a few hours rest and continue on Thursday morning, our check in time at the festival begins at noonThursday and we'd like to be there as close to that time as possible.

So, we've towed through Jacksonville straight down 95 many times but it's always been on a weekend day. It's been a few years now but there was always construction and congestion. Now it looks like we'll be passing through on Thursday mid morning, time is questionable based on how far we make it Wednesday.

I've never taken 295 east or west route around JAX, is it a better option?

  • We just traveled that route, went through J-ville at 12 noon on I 95 and had no problems. 295 adds miles to trip if you must go that way
  • And DON'T take 295W. Its worse than 95 thru town and adds many miles.
  • I don't like high bridges which is why I stay on I-95.

  • 295 E is a much nicer ride. More than once we met up with a truck or RV that went down 95; so neither is going to give you a better time.

    X2 . .

When we travel to southern Florida, we usually plan our trip around Jacksonville traffic.. No problems
