Here is a direct Copy & Paste from the linked NY Times article. How hard did you have to look and go back so far in time to find this? It is about stuff that happened in 2007 - 2008 - 2009 - not that dates matter since the cartels have never had anything to do with RVing. News flash - it is now 2014!!

The Reach of Mexico's Drug Cartels
Mexican drug trafficking cartels “represent the greatest organized crime threat to the United States,” according to a recent Justice Department report. The cartels have waged increasingly violent battles with one another, as well as with the Mexican government, which began an aggressive crackdown in 2006
The poster says it is so people stay safe? Read the whole article and look at both maps - there is one of the US as well as one of Mexico. Is there a state in the US that does not have cartels?
We have traveled in Mexico for many years and have long heard the naysayers bad mouth Mexico. Are there dangers? Where are there no dangers?
This comes up on this forum every week it seems and this nonsense and those who post it are often allowed to go on with it. What has this got to do with RVing? Where is RVing mentioned by the NY Times? When will we read a true and factual story about cartels attacking RVers in any way, shape, or form? Haven't seen one yet. Though I must admit we recently did hear off friends of ours who were robbed in Mexico last year. But we also have friends in the US who have been robbed. Crime happens - everywhere!!! Can you be safe? Maybe if you live in a cave hidden away somewhere no one can find you.
We stay safe everywhere we go because we pay attention and we don't go places or do things that can get us in trouble. Is there any way to totally avoid the possibility of trouble? Nowhere I know of.
