Agreed, we're willing to skip both Walnut and Wupatki if needed for time (or sanity).
If staying at Bonito a couple nights you don't have to skip Walnut and Wupatki. They aren't very far. Also, if you have reservations at Grand Canyon and are going after Bonito/Sunset Crater, definitely take the loop drive (shown on many maps) to get back on Hwy 89 by going from the campground, turn left and immediately go through the entrance gate of Sunset Crater and continuing east and NW back to Hwy 89 and then north on 89 to Hwy 64 east to Grand Canyon and Trailer Village. It's an easy drive and very scenic. By doing this 'loop' you'll drive right by Wupatki and you can stop and explore an hour or so before continuing on.
