If you are there mid-week there is a possibility you might be able get reservations at Cheyenne Mountain State Park at Colorado Springs. It is one of the nicest state parks in the USA. You can go online to check availability and make reservations. We like the Raptor Glen area, high up and overlooking the city.
We have always stayed at Spruce Lake RV Park in Estes Park. Our choice was really determined by friends whom we met there. That was their "traditional" park in Estes Park. I guess it is about as good as any commercial park--between town and the entrance to RMNP. We have never stayed inside the National Park.
I have probably already posted that we like the Arrowhead RV Park which is north of Buena Vista. We like the out-of-town location. The KOA, south of town, is also a good choice.
If I repeat, please overlook.
