Take your time going east out of Ourey and stop in the Salida /Buenna Vista area. We like White Star campground (NFS). By this part of the trip you should be acclimated and ready to bag a 14er. Lots of moderate 14ers in the Arkansas valley to choose from. Just be heading down by noon(lightning).
Another option would be to head up to the grand Mesa just east of Grand Junction for a couple days. Not very crowded up there. Lots of hiking and little lakes with good fishing.
