The trip is this year. Will be at GC early June and out of the desert before July. I am aware how strenuous going to the bottom is. I should have phrased that differently earlier. We will go as far as we can in about 3 hours and then head back up. We often do full day hikes here. We'll be well prepared with lots of water. So, our goal is the bottom, but we'll pull the plug at a smart time. Thanks for the warnings.
I'll be researching some of these other suggestions. I went to your clicky and quickly skimmed. I'll have to read more. Easy roads to ghost towns sounds like our liking.
I may have said it earlier, but we aren't really looking for in town experiences. Don't want to miss the "must do" towns, but otherwise are happy to find a remote lake and sit all day.
