About your number 12. I will be interested in your report about the drive from Silverton to Ouray (Ridgway). That is one route I have yet to try, mostly because my wife is a bit nervous about it. Maybe your experience will encourage me!
We have most frequently gone up to RMNP (Estes Park) from Buena Vista, through Leadville and along I-70 to the "Peak to Peak" highway starting near Central City (several different highway numbers, but starting at CO 119. Not a trip to "get there" but to enjoy the journey.), but you could instead go first to Colorado Springs. Either way would be fine. I think it depends on whether you want to continue your trip from Estes Park or from Colorado Springs.
Either way, I think Buena Vista, Estes Park, and Colorado Springs will all be great places for you to visit.
