Thanks Lauren, I'll research those choices a bit. Like I said, about once a year we do a hike that would include +/- 2000ft of elevation, but those are really tough on us. As in, can't do anything the next day tough. That link shows that most of your suggestions are far less elevation change than that. Sounds like good fits.
padredw, I think that was a good mod. Black Canyon is worth seeing, but after you've been to all the other spots we're going, it doesn't seem worthy of the time for an extended stay. We wouldn't have hiked down the canyon anyway.
Ordered a pair of DVD players to mount on the headrests of the truck. That should help the kids (and adults) get through the long days across the middle of the country. Going to install those tonight.
