Fun trip!
Use the link below to see my 2014 report. It is similar to some of what is suggested, but includes a little more, and we used 42 days. Leave off the Colorado portion and it would fit into your schedule.
I believe the heat of the summer can be managed if you stay diligent with doing morning and evening activities. We did. However, if you want to avoid it, consider a Colorado only trip. There's plenty to keep you occupied, and the temps should be wonderful.
