OK one big thing to factor in your suggestions is this, the OP has a marginal vehicle: "2003 Excursion 7.3 PSD pulling a 2017 Keystone Sprinter, 39 feet long and approx. 9000 lbs" and it squats on the rear axle already in the flatlands. He should be fine so long as he avoids any long steep grades. That pretty much leaves out mountain CO.
