Yes a drive to Monument Valley can be done from Durango, but I recommend a trip to the Valley of the Gods instead. Monument Valley is totally tourist commercialized, the valley is just as good and free both of charges and crowds. Link

You'll drive right by Mesa Verde on the way and will end up near Goosenecks State Park which is very much worth a quick trip. Nothing like it in Apopka I promise you. You can ride your bikes in the Valley too. Make sure to carry much more water than you would back east on your bike rides.
