For the OP, I'm curious about this part. Is this leg being included in the total amount of time you have available? Pushing hard, you can do Pittsburgh to Des Moines in a day -- but the rest of your family may not be as gung ho about it. Figure at least 1.5-2 days to do this, so that's 3-4 before/after you get the RV.

And what sort of vehicle is getting you there? Have you considered taking it along as well as your "free range" toad? A 2nd driver for it, spread the family out, and you'll enjoy your destinations a LOT more than having to drive the Class C around.

We will be leaving on 5/28 for the first leg of the trip, picking up the vehicle on 5/30. We cannot leave any earlier because my son throws discus and will be in our state track and field championships on 5/27! So the RV part of the trip officially begins 5/31 in my opinion because we can't even pick it up until 1 or 2:00 in the afternoon of 5/30. We’ll be driving our Yukon Denali. I have considered taking it along but I’m pretty sure my husband would want to keep everybody together. I don’t love the idea of driving separate...but I do like the idea of having something other than the RV.
