Alabama to Oregon

We are leaving Alabama and going to Oregon pulling a 40 ft fifth wheel with a dually. We are looking for advice on a good route. I-10, I-20 or I-40. Has anyone driven 395 north of Vegas? Any hints on missing the congested cities?

  • You would be better served to stay to a southern route and head to California before heading north. There are more direct routes, but you don't want to be crossing mountains in the central Rockies; March and April are the snowiest months here in Colorado.
  • We prefer 395 vs I-5 or 99 going north thru the state (except in winter).
  • Pretty area, but will likely be wet until at least late June. We usually start our summer hosting in June just for that reason. If your here all summer come visit us in central Oregon.
  • Camp hosting sr Schwarz COE campground.....sight unseen....hope we like it...
  • OK, so you will want to come west mostly in the southern tier. So I10 or so? From LV head West and pick up 395 north. At Alturis you can head over toward Klamath Falls, north on 97. Cross the Cascades on 58, which dumps you onto I5 about 10 miles south of Eugene. Meaning you will need to head south on I5 for another 15-20 miles.
As an alternative you can pick up I80 anywhere along your route you want to I5 in Sacremento.

    Whats happening at Dorena lake?
  • Sorry,,,, southwest Oregon, south of Eugene, Lake Dorena,,,,, leave March 15th. Need to be there April 7th.
