- lizzieExplorerWe took the ferry from Prince Rupert and one of the places we got off was Juneau. We left our TT there and flew to Gustavus where a shuttle bus picked us up to go to the Lodge. We spent the night there, did the Glacier Bay tour the next day and flew back to Juneau. It was so worth it! We too have done the Stan Stephens tour out of Valdez and it is very good but does not compare with Glacier Bay. There were people on the boat with us who had flow in from Haines so I know that is an option also. lizzie
- pigman1ExplorerIf you want to actually take a tour boat all the way into Glacier, ask some pointed questions before you book. THe Government only issues a certain number of tour boat permits for Glacier Bay each year. Some sharp operators have been known to say you were all the way in the bay when, in fact, they were playing around in the non-permit required areas. Not exactly illegal, but very closely worded advertising. Just check closely. Our tour was on a small boat (120) people out of Juneau, but it's not running any longer. A Stan Stephens tour out of Valdez to Meares and Columbia Glaciers are just as good in my opinion, and a whole lot easier to access. We've been on the Stan Stephens tours 5 times and will no doubt go again. It's that good.
- dahkotaExplorerDrive to Skagway or Haines. From there, you can do a fly over or take a plane to Gustavus. Or, a ferry to Juneau and then on to Glacier Bay.
