There are pluses to both going with a caravan and going on your own. However by going on your own you have the freedom of leaving a location you may not enjoy before you are scheduled to leave or staying longer at a spot you would like to see more of. We found that on our two driving trips to Alaska that we often extended our stay at a location because we enjoyed where we were. Homer and Valdez were two such locations.
Take you caravan itinerary as a guide to the "must sees", shape it to your own likes, buy a Tour Saver book to save money on some of the tours, and enjoy your trip.
