By the time you get back you will be thanking the tour company for cancelling the trip & saving you so much money.
Follow the tour route if you wish, not like there are many route choices, but avoid some of the full service CGs they probably use & strike out on your own. The Canadian Provincial Parks & Yukon Government CG are the best. Alaska has some really nice SPs too.
