If you decide not to caravan, you still don't have to do the trip all alone. Go to the Roll Call Alaska 2018 thread, put your name on the list, put a "Roll Call Alaska 2018" sign in a visible location on your RV, and look for others with those signs along the road and in the campgrounds you stay in. We kept track of which other RV.net travelers were in the same area at the same time and visited several on our last trip. It's also a great way to get the latest information on the route you are headed for and they have just traveled over.
Also, the "stickies" at the top of the Alaska-Canada forum will provide checklists of things to take, not-to-miss sights, tours, campgrounds, restaurants, fuel stops, car washes, etc. It provides as much information as many guidebooks but is a lot cheaper! It's still no substitute for the Milepost, however.
