Alaskan trip on 2 wheels

That was 37 years ago so I don't remember. Seems like I budgeted $500 for the whole trip, camping only in free spots, no restaurants.

BTW: The scoot would do 70 mph so I was able to move right along.

When we were in Alaska in 2005 we met a couple from Denmark who were bicycling around the world for their honeymoon. The said they had one change of clothes washing out the worn one each night, cameras and a laptop computer and I guess personal items. They only used other transportation when necessary such as crossing the ocean from Japan to Alaska. They were heading south from Alaska and hoped to be in South America for their summer. I am not sure what they did for money, but they expected to be gone a total of two years.

We actually saw them twice, once on the shuttle bus in Denali and then again at the park laundry room/internet room and they did indeed have all their belongings on their bikes.

I just bouht a Yamaha Zumba 125 for around the campground or to run to the store or restaurant. I could not imagine taking it to Alaska. Sure would save on fuel costs though.

Tell you what, the guy who did the trip on that Mobylette has some brass ones. I had one of those things in 1967. For 2 years it was my daily rider for getting around Bermuda.

Lucky me, never had to ride it more than a half hour. Those things are nothing like the 50cc scooters these days. It had the power of todays weed trimmer for starters & got worse from there.

No accidents on that trip. The scoot, a Rally 200 worked fine on well over 1000 miles of gravel. I put a knobby on the rear for the gravel parts.

I rode a Vespa to Alaska in 78 also but unfortunately did not meet up with Muma along the way. It was much more of an adventure than 2013 when I rode up on a motorcycle.

Whenever I think I'm never gonna get somewhere, I think of this guy, he made it there and back and never went over 35 MPH.
