  • We made the trip from Georgia and traveled north on I15 from Great Falls to cross into Alberta. We visited Jasper and Banff before continuing on to Alaska. On the return trip we traveled south on the Cassier Highway through British Columbia and crossed into Oroville, Washington.

You can visit our blog at Wandering Dawgs Click the tabs at the top of the page for maps of our journey and a list a campgrounds where we stayed. PM me if you have more questions.
  • The best recommendation is to purchase a "Mile Post" and look at the different routes. You may chose to do the northern USA, or go through Canada. We just returned from Alaska in September. Take your time and enjoy the adventure. Good Luck.

Keep in mind not all border crossings operate 24 hrs. I would suggest for those in the eastern USA and the Midwest travelling down I29 north and crossing at Pembina/Emerson (24 hour) is a good option! Then north on to Winnipeg, west to the junction of Trans Canada (#1) and the yellowhead (#16). Stay on the yellowhead right to Edmonton,Alberta. From Edmonton west to Dawson Creek, British Columbia, and you are at mile 0 of the Alaska Hwy. Have a safe journey!:)
  • Check out our blog from my signature starting May 19th 2013 until August 4th. Did Banff, Jasper, Top of the World Highway and Chicken. Then took the "Circle Route" from Mike & Terry Church's "Traveler's Guide to Alaska Camping" . On our return we booked passage on the Alaska Marine Highway from Skagway to Prince Rupert. From Prince Rupert we took the Trans-Canada Highway across to Winnipeg then south to the border.
  • Cross one place going up and a different coming back. We crossed at Portal, ND going, not a lot to see. Came back through WA down into CA. It was 7 long days to the AK border. Went up to Dawson City and crossed on the free ferry to the Top of the World Hiway. 13,000 mi what with coming back via CA - Pikes Peak, CO - NM & TX. What a trip.

Look for Kistkatinaw Bridge Sign in BC a very short off shoot on the old AlCan. Photo ops before and after crossing are worth the stop. Take a sign or license plate for the sign post city.
  • We go up I-75 to the Mackinak Bridge and then across US-2 to western Montana. I15 north to the border and then north to Edmonton, NW to Dawson Creek and up the Alaska Highway. 11,500 miles round trip from Delaware. A great trip, we've been up 5 times.
