Alberta 6 & 5 To Waterton

Are there any bridge clearance issues for a 13'-2" high 5th wheel on Alberta routes 6 and 5 between the Chief Mountain border crossing and Waterton?

I ask because Alberta has a maximum trailer height of 13'-1" (4 meters), but a minimum bridge height (on primary roads) of 13'-7" (4.15 meters).

Except for "technically" being over the height limit, are there any practical clearance issues in getting to/from Waterton?

  • Thanks for all the responses. It's nice to know I don't have to worry about an unwanted roof cleaning!
  • I have a 13 ft high 5er and have traveled those roads many times and will be again this coming summer. I have never had a problem at all. Enjoy the scenery as it is beautiful. When in Waterton just be prepared for some very high winds that may or may not come. We usually stay just north of the gates at Waterton Springs campground for a couple of weeks prior to moving on up north.
  • There is a over bridge on Highway 6 between Twin Butte and Pincher Creek but no problem since the clearance is 5.9 metres

  • This is likely to be moved to the Canadian board.

It's unlikely to be an issue since this is open lightly settled country. So I don't expect any overpasses, and few if any railway bridges of the road.

Still you could look up the route on Google maps. Zoom in enough in sat view to see where bridges cross the road. Then use streetview to get a ground view of said bridge.
