Don't think of it as a ripoff - but rather you've been educated! Think of it this way - they have less customers to deal with and have the same revenue.
GasBuddy says it's 1.06 in Jasper just to the north. Preplan, don't get low on fuel and use GasBuddy. I don't have internet access in Canada except for free WiFi when available and that's when I check ahead for fuel, CGs etc.
Last time I drove by Pink Mountain after Dawson Creek the price was $6.50/gal US. One Ft Nelson camper said he bought just $20 to get to Ft Nelson.
