And if it were me, I would just stay on I-20 around the southwest corner of Ft Worth to I-35W south to Alvarado. And do it mid day. That short stretch of I-20 in the FT Worth area should not pose a problem for you.
I would agree with this. I-20 bypasses Fort Worth and Dallas around to the south. I have never had a slow down on this portion of I-20. Of course, a bad wreck could change that, but I have gone this way many times towing a 34' fifth-wheel and never had a slow down.
An alternative is to take Texas 171 at Weatherford down to Cleburne and pick up 67 there over to Alvarado.
