I doubt whether there will be much difference -- you could check the point forecasts on the NOAA site for various places along the way. Those forecasts will provide wind predictions for both strength and direction -- obviously, the goal is to avoid cross-winds. So, for example, if the wind is from the northwest, 40 will have tailwinds and 10 will have cross-winds.
But the problem is that the forecasts are good but not perfect.
When I am heading out into bad winds, I watch the truckers -- when they pull over, so do I.
