The 10 route the big problem area will be at Morongo Pass just before Palm Springs the rest of the way out of the valley will be windy but workable usually, just slow a bit.
The 15 over the pass and through Barstow can be very ugly, in-laws used to live in Helendale and that was one of their issues was the wind.
The 10 has more options as you can cut over at Desert center which will bring you to highway 60 going to parker, you could even take 60 from Morongo pass and out through the Morongo valley to Parker. Slower 2 and four lane highway which in the wind isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Once on the 15/40 route that is pretty much only option.
