As part of our summer trip to AK, we'd like to include a flight from Anchorage to another town that we can't drive to, where we would see/get a different cultural experience than we'd get in the class...

There are times that there is local entertainment at Kotzebue. You would have to Bing for dates. This more cultural then in Nome.
Nome has some interesting sites including the old saloons and gold mining dredges.
