Don't mind going up Grants Pass but it seems like you'd lose time in doubling back down in Ca. before heading north again? Not to mention more fuel? IIRC, Grants Pass is something like 7%? I remember 199 being a bit of a wild downhill ride also with lots of twists and turns.
I would avoid 299 at this time. Lots of Fire equipment on the move. Really smoky. 199 is your best bet.
Thank you! We'll be there in the last couple of weeks of Sept. Will still be in the forest fire season and who knows a month from now, but for the record what is the drive on 199 like?
