As long as you aren't towing your trailer with a 3/4 ton or something silly like that you really don't have anything to worry about. Now if it is obvious that you are towing overweight or have obvious safety defects then you could be in for an issue. Saying that I have seen countless people that are obviously towing overweight on their trucks and nothing ever seems to happen.
