As someone said, you could get pulled over for an inspection and weigh, but it's pretty unlikely. I've been pulling for decades in BC and never once been weighed, except when I do it myself at a closed weigh station.
As to the border, pulled the trailer to the Grand Canyon and Vegas a few years back. Going down they went through the trailer, probably because I said I had no food at all (which was true). Took 15 minutes or so and they were nice enough.
Coming back I was over my spending limit and over my booze limit (bought all the booze the day heading down at Omak Wal Mart and just didn't drink enough in the 2 weeks). Handed them a wad of receipts and a list of what we bough expecting I'd have to pay something. They spent 45 minutes going through my setup from truck bumper to trailer bumper. Wanted to know what the extra electronics under the hood was (Edge chip for the diesel) and checked the trailer registration as it was near new and they wanted to be sure I had bought it in Canada. I was fully expecting to pay GST and what ever duty I needed to as I knew I was over limit. They thanked me for being honest and let me go without paying.
They are much nicer at these border crossings then at the airports, especially going into the US.
