Frank: Your previous stickers were 6 months not one year. I assume your van has a 10 year RV permit. It can only be returned at a border point with a Banjerecito. I cannot speak for the other border points but in Nogales that means going to "km21". You need current information on other border points. Mexico recently closed some as they were redundant. Not turning in vehicle permits can result in fines or losing the ability to obtain any car permits. Traveling to any foreign country requires one to follow the rules or suffer the consequences.

Thanks Moisheh - you're right abou the 6 month term. Obviously I'm not trying to circumvent Mexican rules - that's the reason I posted - I'm trying to get some info on the easiest way to adhere to the requirement.
I did find a list of border crossings with Banjercitos - interestingly, the NM crossing referenced in this thread isn't on it.
So I guess my question can be boiled down to : are there border crossings where I can return the permit at an office right at the border, or has the return office been moved to the interior checkpoint (the old garitas?), not just at Nogales, but at all the others as well?
I would rather not drive 20 km into Mexico simply to return the permit.
