Arizona RV trip

We found the nicest RV park in Las Vegas. It's the Clark County Shooting Facility. It's only $20 per night, and includes 30/50amp service, sewer and water. At night, you have a great view of the city since you're in the foothills. Also, since you're above the valley floor, it cools down a little better at night. And if you like to shoot, they have a world class shooting range for very reasonable fees.

I would stay in Cottonwood at Dead Horse ranch State Park and visit Jerome,Tuzigoot and Ft Verde.Grand Canyon stay in 10X or Mather if you want some wilderness or Trailer Village for hookups.

Ooopps...Made a mistake in my reply. I'd certainly skip Oak Creek Canyon near Sedona. Its a VERY busy, narrow, winding 2 lane road. Wall to wall traffic.

We were in Sedona in the off season (mid December) and didn't find it to be touristy or crowded whatsoever. Focused on fabulous hiking, Indian ruins, etc. beautiful place. Worth seeing.

Vegas and Phoenix - no need for a night in either.

Because Sedonia is on the way I would stop in and at least see it - like Yogi said "No one goes there ........ too crowded." But then so is the Grand Canyon, so.....

Page/Antelope Canyon, Lake Powell and the Dam, on the way to Zion - could even run and see the North side of the GC on the way to Zion, because of the elevation it might be noticeably cooler.

Need to plan your days around early morning and late evenings for the hikes with possibly using the mid day for exploring/relocating in the car/RV if the temp is up.

Next time you plan a late summer trip look into the San Juan's in Colorado - so much cooler and perfect for spending the days on long and eventful hikes.

I'd skip Sedona(Very busy tourist trap) Phoenix & Las Vegas. Instead See Flagstaff area(Walnut canyon, Oak Creek canyon, SunSet Crater loop & Wupatki Indian ruins, Lowel Observatory instead. 4 Days Min.

If you are hikers then you could spend 2 weeks in Bryce, if you just want to drive the road and get out at the scenic overlooks then less is enough. But two days would give you time for a couple of good hikes, maybe Queens Garden and the Navajo trails.

On any hikes remember that you are flatlanders and even moderate climbs will be a lot tougher than you expect. The altitude will get you and you aren't spending enough time to out there to adjust to it. Also carry twice as much water as you think you need.

Those are in southern AZ they want to go north, LOL. Talk about adding driving time.

Just be aware that the temps in the Phoenix & Las Vegas area will be around 110/115 degrees in August -- Bill Willard
