Arkansas travel Rt 270 to Rt 71 Hot Springs to Fort Smith

Has anyone recently traveled from Hot Springs to Fort Smith using 270 to 71. Doesn't look like that Route 7 is a good option for us to get back up to I40. Any info on diesel stops would be welcomed....

We used that route in January to get from Mena to Hot Springs. Lots of curves, but scenic, no major towns, and relatively little traffic except in the suburbs of Hot Springs.
