Axle weight limits in Canada and Yukon

Are they the same as USA ? Here we can be 24k on a single axle on Interstates. Have never been stopped and weighed in an rv so not too concerned but still like to know the regs.
  • Axle and tire ratings are manufacturers ratings and are accepted everywhere. There is a lot of discussion whether GVWR is a legal limit in BC regardless of tire and axles ratings. To be on the safe side, I think it is prudent to assume that it is. I have never been weighed in BC and don't know anyone who has. I think it is unlikely unless a police officer has good reason to think you are overloaded.

Licensing requirements are reciprocal and visitors who are legal in their own country would be legal in BC while visiting. A system that required a person to meet the licensing requirements of every state and province they visit would be unmanageable.
  • I have seen the biggest of equipment hauled here loaclly. We are the number 1 gold producer in the US and i think number 5 in the world.
  • Weight limits should be one of your last concerns. On northern roads you are going to see equipment much larger than seen on interstates being hauled around.
  • Quick answer: Alberta & BC use your actual tire capacity to determine gvw
  • In BC it all depends on what drivers licence you have as well as the type and size of vehicle.
For me with a regular class 5 drivers license I can only tow 10,000 lbs loaded.
After 10,000 lbs you have to get a endorsement on your drivers license which required a road test hauling the rig that weighs over 10,000 lbs as well it must be in a veihcal that can pull that weight. I think, if I recall correctly you even need a physical but it may have changed.
I also believe that if you are driving one of them big motor coaches with air breaks you also need that endorsment on your license.
In Alberta it is hugely different from BC and I have no idea about the Yukon.
If I am incorrect please correct me, however I know the class 5 is correct.
