AZ... traveling from Lost Dutchman to Dead Horse state parks

We are heading back to Cottonwood from Apache Junction area. Didnt love the trip here which used major highways including the 101 and the 102... How's the route heading toward Payson using 87 and 2...

Our preferred route is 60 west to 202 loop, north then west to I-17. As long as you're not running the route at drive time it's a very easy drive.
