AZ... traveling from Lost Dutchman to Dead Horse state parks

We are heading back to Cottonwood from Apache Junction area. Didnt love the trip here which used major highways including the 101 and the 102... How's the route heading toward Payson using 87 and 2...

87 and 260 are very scenic.
87 is mostly 4 lane divided south of Payson.
There is a 6 mile 7% downhill grade near Mt. Ord into Sycamore Canyon.
There is a 10 mile 6% uphill grade from Rye to Payson.
North of Payson towards Pine 260 is 2 lane and a bit winding with some grades.
260 is mostly downhill to Cottonwood.
