Badlands, SD to Wichita, KS

I have a diesel 2500 towing a 35'TT. I need suggestions on the best route to get from the Badlands in SD to Wichita, KS. I've mapped the possible routes on Good Sam and none of them look real good.

By "best" I mean with stops for diesel fuel and road quality. Thanks for your reply. The last route you suggested was the one that I'm thinking of.

There's a Pilot in Murdo, a Flying J in North Platte, a Pilot in Wood River, and a Pilot in Salina. I don't recall any bad road along that route.
  • I put a 91 gallon fuel tank in my truck's bed. Now I'm not concerned with fuel stops - 1,000 miles between fill-ups.

I usually use Google Maps to pick my routes and have good success. I then compare the route on my trucker's atlas to ensure it's big-rig friendly.

  • Define "best". I've pulled my 40' 5th on US-81 between Murdo, SD and North Platte, NE and on US-83 between York, NE to Wichita, KS with no problem. I'd suggest I-90E to Murdo, US-81S to North Platte, I-80E to exit 353 (York), US-83S to Wichita.
