Badlands

Looking to visit the Badlands around the 1st of Sept. Can anyone tell me if the Loop Rd and Sage Creek Rim Rd are trailer friendly as far as stopping at overlooks and trail heads are concerned? Want to see if it's feasible to go through and see the park and stop for the night at Sage Creek on the way out towards Custer.
  • The roads are good 2 lane highways. I don't recall any extreme grades.

    BK
  • Best I remember the pull offs are plenty large to handle a trailer. The Badlands is certainly a site to behold.
  • We got into the park about 10 PM and saw a lot of head lights up in the air and decided to explore driving the 32' MH. We wound up doing the trails/board walls at midnight under a full moon. It was really awesome. We did it again the next morning but it was not as cool as under moon light. It was our first stop on or 2011 8K mile run to the Pacific Ocean and was one of the top three experiences of the 31 day trip.
  • Good Road, Good Pull Off'S. Great Park. No worry with the RV. Enjoy!!!
  • Went by in late June 2005 so info may be out of date but don't think things have changed much.

Loop Road is a good 2-lane road. I pulled through it with a 35' FW and had no problems stopping at any of the pull-offs.

Sage Creek Road was gravel at the time. Very bad wash board so we only ventured down to the first over-look and turned around.

Didn't want to take the time to go crawl since we were headed home from 7 weeks on the road and only had a few more days to get home. Did see enough on the three hour ride down the Loop Road though that Badlands is high on our return list with at least three nights there. Want to spend them out in Sage Creek campground to be as far from anything as possible.

Of course, now with the above mentioned full moon, I can imagine how it would look so now have to add full moon planning into the equation.
