Bahia Kino, Sonora - how cold is it really?

Just curious. No plans going there now. Web reports for small towns are notoriously unreliable.

eebmike.com - few days ago it showed 10C/52F daily high, 4C/40F nightly low. They don't provide data every day for every small town though.

accuweather.com - it says today Dec 28 Bahia Kino 71F high 45F low. This website is often getting temps from whatever closest station available, sometimes hundreds miles away in totally different climate zone.
  • I am referring to the airport in Hermosillo, they have a reporting weather station, and that gives me the relative weather in my area, the dirt strip in Kino bay is of no use to me, the closest international airport has a weather station that gives the pilots landing in that airport the barometric pressure, temperature, dew point, wind speed and direction, cloud cover and altitude, any precipitation if any and any other weather related event that a pilot may need to make a safe passage or landing.

As for dirt strips there are hundreds of them all over, alas they do not help, unless one needs to know the condition of the dirt, packed dirt, gravel, macadam clay, the air navigational charts give me that info.

    Those it make sense now?

  • Mid Baja Caifornia Pacific side it was 39.2 degrees at 0525 today. Registered on a Rogers mercury thermometer. My Black Seeded Simpson lettuce loves it.

So accuweather wasn't that far off. Yes, wind makes a lot of difference in how it feels.
  • navigator: This is Kino. Airport you say??? There is one but it is unmanned except for the odd soldier. I doubt they have a thermometer. I also bet the windsock is so full of holes it does not work. I use a vantage Pro Weather station. My temps run fairly close to that from qwikcast. One can sign up for a web site and send them a download of the data from the Vantage Pro and they generate a weather forecast. For wind and waves we all use Buoy Weather.

  • Mazatlan, 3 blocks from the beach off the Golden Zone has been 80 F pretty well except 2 or 3 days for 6 weeks. 74 now with 10 to 15 mph North wind very comfortable. One sprinkle of rain yesterday...lawn chairs were dry in 5 minutes. Go further South and yes it is warmer (not that much warmer, but the humidity goes way up too)

Last week and a half we were able to turn the AC off at night, back on at 6;30 am 9am 75 degrees. Must get my weed eating finished.....
  • I prefer Weather underground because it shows you a list of weather stations near (maybe)your query.
These are both government and private stations.
  • The closest temp that I can find is the airport in near Bahia Kino, most airports will have a thermometer and a barometer, go on the internet and find the closest airport to your location and you will get a guesstimate for your location.

The last reading at Hermosillo was 14 Celsius, at 06.00.

Zero Celsius being 32 Fahrenheit most readings are taken at 06.00, 12.00, 18.00 and 24.00, some airports also take readings every half hour.

The readings of the morning and afternoon are the only ones reported, so it is a guesstimate no matter what.

  • I don't know where some of those sites get their information. I use qwikccast.com or accuweather. Often they forecast rain and we know it is not going to rain. Hermosillo is getting some cold temps. About 5 C overnight. Today it is 70 outside but the forecast was for 67. Overnight has been high 50's. We could have had Christmas dinner outside as it was 73 in the afternoon But it has been windy. Not a cloud in the sky. You have to go further south than Maz for really warm weather.
