Do not just open and spray it out.
Bear spray is not your regular pepper spray, it it very strong and could be dangerous to you or anyone close by. We have seen it put a man in hospital.
Also to keep it in case of an intruder.....I don't know about the States but here I think it could be an issue legally if used for that purpose.
Bear Spray is classified as a restricted firearm and you must obtain proper paperwork to bring it into Canada.
I would call your ministry of natural resources or a hunting shop and ask what they suggest you do with it.
