It's hit or miss with food items. We usually leave empty and get groceries state side so we don't have any worries but this trip we stocked the fridge and freezer at home since the exchange rate is so bad (and prices in U.S. Are high too). No problems crossing. The agent didn't ask us about anything, just checked passports and waved us through.
I don't usually get asked about foods anyways, unless there is an outbreak of sorts. Agents are usually more concerned with weapons, alcohol etc. We crossed at Fort Erie
