DITTO this route.89/44/395 good road. No real traffic til near Reno. Enjoyed the drive very much.

This has been the driest winter since 1930, so... It may be cold over nights, but daytimes should be decent. Tripcheck oregon web site will allow you to see highway web cams. Check them out. They also generally show temps.

DITTO!!! Exactly how we do it. (Lived in LaPine for 9 yrs --- SIL in Reno -- yip that was our route)

I5/I205/I84 to east Portland. Take the 181st ave exit and go south to Powell,
BLVD (US26) east over the mountains to 97 south. Follow 97 to just south of LaPine and take 31 SE toward Lakeview. 395 follows south to Reno. Beautiful drive, not much traffic and some nice places to camp. LaPine State Park, Goose Lake State Park are two suggestions. LaPine is about 4 hours drive from Portland and Lakeview is another 4 hours drive.
