Best Route around LA from Palm Springs to Santa Barbara

We are looking for some local knowledge to get around LA from Palm Springs to Santa Barbara, we are actually headed up to Carmel for the ATT tournament at Pebble Beach. Will probably be leaving Palm ...

If you don't need to go to Santa Barbara, go the 10 to 210 to 15 to 395 to 58 to 99 to 46 to 101
you'll hit 101 just past Paso Robles
If you have to go to Santa Barbara stay on the 210 to the 134 which runs into the 101.
Im sure there will be other suggestions
