Best Route around LA from Palm Springs to Santa Barbara

We are looking for some local knowledge to get around LA from Palm Springs to Santa Barbara, we are actually headed up to Carmel for the ATT tournament at Pebble Beach. Will probably be leaving Palm ...

My favorite is the 10 to the 210 to the 118 which turns into the 26 and finally the 101 to Santa Barbara. The 210 can be very congested during rush hours, but so can every other freeway in LA. Try to head north no earlier than 9:30Am, avoid 3:30 to 7:30pm. Great on weekends.
