I can only speak about Carlsbad to Roswell US 70 to Alamogordo. That is an easy route towing our 5er. We did drive US 82 from Alamogordo to Cloudcroft not towing. Some narrow steep twisting parts of highway along that route. Don't know about east of Cloudcroft.
